Can we put a price tag on the transformation of emotions into a concrete form?
In the case of “The Woman on the Hammock” by Canova-inspired florentine sculptor Antonio Frilli, the answer is a resounding yes. it went under the hammer at Sotheby‘s for a cool $800,000.

Obviously the price defines mere commercial parameters, not the incalculable value of the work in terms of the artist’s intentions, his artistic ability to shape emotions into concrete substance, the way he interprets beauty, that participatory moment of magical aesthetic intuition. The sharing of aesthetic emotions is the only possible measure for assessing any work of art, steering clear of sterile calculations on unknown or presumed criteria of intention. emotions, from purely physical emotions to those of all the five senses, are the only proof of the values that permeate, in this case, the studios of Carrara’s artists, with their centuriesold history of embodying incalculable processes of creativity
