June 1939 Giuseppe Furrer, a brilliant manager, resigned from Montecatini SPA, fulfilling the dream of setting up his own company. Furrer SPA came to life at no 2 via covetta in Carrara, penetrating the market of stone excavation and production.

Giuseppe Furrer challenged himself with a wide variety of precious stones from all over the world also acquiring several quarries. This strategy, blended with a strong dedication and customer care, quickly made Furrer SPA a benchmark in the international stone industry.

Franz Furrer joined the company. Giuseppe's only son had an eclectic personality with a great passion for art and boating. Franz was a renowned artist and his works can still be found in several art galleries.

In 1976 the Furrer Family decided to sell the company also due to Franz's growing artistic success and commitment. The buyer was Partusola SPA, a listed firm which belonged to Rotshschild group and which was looking for a 'gem' to enter the marble sector.

The strength and importance of the brand kept growing and Furrer was consecrated as one of the best stone companies being awarded prestigious projects such as Carlo Felice Theatre in Genova. However, Pertusola Management was only a transition as the modern Furrer only started under the capable management of Gino Mazzi, a manager of the oil business who decided to challenge himself with the stone industry.

Under the new management, Furrer knew a significant growth. A new quarry of Bianco Carrara Campanili was acquired in addition to the prestigious quarry of Statuario Calocara, the company was awarded projects of international interest such as Kremlin in Moscow and Bank of China Headquarters in Beijing and several investments were made to improve and expand the production plant.

Furrer began the new millennium signing valuable projects by big names such as Montecampione Casino, designed by Mario Botta and started to play a major role in the architectural and design scene. One of the most significant collaboration was established with Marc Newson to produce his iconic and disruptive design pieces which combined stone, creativity and new technologies.

Following the evolving needs of the market, the newarchitectural and design concepts and with the help of the latest technologies major investments have been made. Furrer doubled the surface reaching 48.000 m2 and the recent acquisition of a new quarry of Bianco Carrara Montemaggiore makes it one of the strongest groups in the stone industry. In March 2018 Furrer was listed among the 500 best Italian companies by Corriere della Sera and Italy Post.
